2nd Year

We have interviewed the current second year students and put together a few tips for current and future second year fashion students, we hope you find them helpful...

  • Plan financially for printing projects and buying fabric
  •  Time management is important, especially with history. Go to the library as soon as you receive the brief
  • Always have sharp fabric scissors
  •  Be friendly with Hannie, she can be very helpful
  •  Voice your opinion if there is a problem, otherwise it will not be resolved
  •  It is not compulsory, but it is handy to have a mode of transport, preferably a car
  •  Always backup your work, you can use your CPUT email account (studentnumber@mycput.ac.za)

  •  Clean your flash drive regularly
  •  Get photoshop and coraldraw on your pc at home, you can't always rely on the CPUT computer lab
  •  Watch photoshop tutorials on youtube
  •  Practice your drawing and pattern skills in the holidays
  •  Learn how to use the library facilities, use database for research
  •  Press all your garments as you sew
  •  Try to stay ahead of the cyllabis
  •  Consult lecturers before buying fabric
  •  Make as much use of your lecturers as possible
  •  Pattern details are important
  •  Make sure your patterns are neat, ironing is helpful for this
  •  Take all subjects seriously
  •  Don't skip History core lectures
  •  Do Maryna's homework
  •  Use WGSN
  • Try your best at Gerber and grading, do not give up, it is helpful in the future
  •  Always take notes and refer back to them

We hope you find these tips helpful, they come from students who have been through the same cyllabis :)
